Pune: PMRDA Begins Land Acquisition Drive for 150 New Roads

Pune, 4th June 2025: In a major step toward improving regional connectivity and tackling traffic congestion, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has initiated land acquisition for 150 proposed roads and around 85 hectares of designated reserve plots. The process officially began on 28th May, as part of a broader strategy to support the sustainable development of the fast-growing Pune Metropolitan Region.
Speaking about the initiative, PMRDA Commissioner Yogesh Mhase underlined the need for forward-planning in infrastructure development. He noted that securing land ahead of time is critical for timely implementation and to prevent bottlenecks in the future, especially as the demand for efficient transport solutions continues to surge.
The land acquisition project spans several key talukas within the PMRDA’s extensive 6,246.26 sq km jurisdiction, including Maval, Haveli, Mulshi, and Shirur. To manage the process efficiently, PMRDA has floated tenders to appoint a consultancy firm that will handle all aspects of the land procurement.
The appointed consultant will be responsible for tasks such as conducting revenue surveys, preparing compensation proposals, and ensuring compliance with the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement Act of 2013. Coordination with local administrative bodies will also fall under the consultant’s scope to facilitate smooth and timely acquisition.
The consultancy tenure is set at 30 months, with the selected agency expected to commence work within 15 days of being appointed. Interested firms have been asked to submit their proposals by 6th June 2025.
