Pune, 28th May 2025: In preparation for the upcoming Sant Tukaram Maharaj and Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi processions, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) launched a major operation on Tuesday to remove unauthorized and hazardous hoardings along the Palkhi routes, particularly in Haveli Taluka and along the Pune-Solapur highway.

21 Illegal Hoardings Removed So Far
As part of this drive, 21 illegal hoardings were dismantled. The operation will continue uninterrupted for the next 10 days. Sant Dnyaneshwar’s Palkhi is scheduled to arrive in Pune via the Pune-Saswad route, while Sant Tukaram’s Palkhi will travel along the Pune-Solapur route, both expected on June 20. The removal of these hoardings aims to prevent potential accidents and enhance the safety and aesthetics of the procession routes.

Public Advisory on Hazardous Structures
Considering the risk posed by strong winds during monsoon, PMRDA has urged advertisers and property owners to immediately remove any hazardous, unauthorized, or excessively tall hoardings from their premises. The authority has mandated that all hoardings must be approved in advance, and any unauthorized structures will be removed without further notice. No new hoarding may be erected without PMRDA’s explicit permission.

Operation Led by Senior Officials
The operation was carried out under the leadership of Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase, Additional Commissioner Deepak Singla, Joint Commissioner Sanjay Gaikwad, Superintendent of Police Amol Tambe, and Deputy District Collector Dr. Deepti Suryawanshi-Patil. Also present were Tehsildar Ravindra Ranjane, Police Inspector Maheshkumar Saratape, engineers Harish Mane, Tejas Madane, Sharad Khomne, Deepak Mane, and local police personnel.

Firm Steps for Public Safety
With the monsoon approaching and the Palkhi season nearing, PMRDA has committed to a comprehensive campaign to eliminate unauthorized and dangerous hoardings in the region. The administration has assured that the drive will be completed within the planned timeframe, ensuring a safer environment for all citizens.
