Pune, 4th June 2021: An important and ambitious development plan of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has been in talks since 2017. The plan was supposed to be finalized by 30th April 2021, but the pandemic has got the better of it. Officials now believe that the plan will be given an extension due to the Covid 19.

The development plan of Rs 2500 Crore was left to finalize due to the Loksabha elections and then the Maharashtra state elections in 2019. Then the pandemic made it practically impossible to implement it. However, the state government has already given its consent to the infrastructure guidelines of PMRDA.

Subsequently, 23 villages are included in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) jurisdiction from PMRDA. But due to the lack of clarity regarding its official inclusion, it is not yet decided as to which authority will take up developmental work in these villages.

PMRDA plans to build Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar and Shivajinagar-Loni Kalbhor Pune Metro routes, 88 km ring road and 14 Hitech City (TP scheme) among others. It also plans to create a network of railway lines and intends to rope in private players for the development of this region.
