Pune: PMRDA to Establish STP Projects in 11 Villages Within PMC and PCMC Limits; Rs 300 Crore Sanctioned

Pune, 8th October 2024: Rapid urbanization is taking place in villages under the jurisdiction of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). In response, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has initiated plans to develop essential infrastructure in these areas.
In several locations, untreated sewage is being discharged directly into rivers and streams, contributing significantly to water pollution. To address this issue, PMRDA will establish Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) in 11 villages. A budget of ₹300 crore has been approved for the project.
The villages under PMC and PCMC have seen rapid growth, including large residential projects. However, due to the absence of proper planning, these areas currently lack adequate STP facilities.
The villages set to receive the sewage treatment projects include Bhugaon, Bhukum, Pirangut, Lavale, Hinjawadi, Maan, Ghotavade, Chakan-Medankarwadi, Shikrapur-Sanaswadi, Marunji, Kesnand, and Chakan.
PMRDA is also working to incorporate the STP project under the central government’s Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme.
