Pune: PMRDA Unveils Ambitious Skyway Project for Seamless Hinjewadi IT Park-Metro Station Connectivity
Pune, 1st December 2023: In a significant move aimed at enhancing connectivity within Pune’s bustling Hinjawadi area, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has unveiled plans for a pioneering skyway project. This initiative seeks to establish seamless connectivity between the Hinjawadi Metro station and the IT Park, streamlining commuting for metro travelers and easing congestion.
Rinaj Pathan, Chief Engineer at PMRDA, confirmed the ambitious undertaking, labeling it a groundbreaking pilot project. “We’ve greenlit the construction of a skyway that will significantly benefit commuters. Presently in the planning phase, this project is poised for rapid implementation,” Pathan asserted. Spanning approximately 2 to 2.5 kilometers, the proposed skyway will efficiently link the Hinjawadi Metro Station to various IT Park companies, promising swift and convenient access for metro users.
Speaking on the progress of the Shivajinagar-Maan-Hinjawadi Metro line, Pathan declared, “We’ve achieved 50% completion on this crucial line, and we’re committed to meeting our deadline of March 2025 for its entire completion.”
The PMRDA officials disclosed a strategic partnership with a private enterprise, facilitating the construction of the skyway. The initial phase involves developing a 2.5 km test track, commencing from Hinjawadi Phase II circle and extending to Mannara Technologies via the MIDC hill service reservoir. Further expansion includes connectivity to additional businesses.
The pilot project envisions three passenger stations and an elevated string rail track structure designed in an overpass style. PMRDA emphasized that once safety approvals are obtained, the construction of the entire 10 km skyway track will commence.
Remarkably, the entire development costs will be borne by the collaborating private company. The focus on establishing last-mile connectivity to IT hub software companies during the completion of the Hinjawadi-Wakad stretch underscores the project’s commitment to comprehensive accessibility for metro commuters.
The introduction of skyways is poised to provide direct access to the Metro for IT company employees, revolutionizing commuting experiences and fostering enhanced connectivity within Pune’s tech-centric landscape.
