Kothrud, 18th February 2025: The mystery surrounding the continuous deaths of pigs in the Kothrud area has finally been unraveled. An examination by the Disease Control Center of the Animal Husbandry Department has confirmed the presence of carbamate poison in the organs of the deceased pigs. Authorities now suspect that these animals were deliberately poisoned.

Since February 6, numerous pig carcasses have been discovered in the Bharati Nagar Nala and Bhimale Corner areas of Kothrud. So far, a total of 54 pigs have been found dead, with one undergoing an autopsy. The findings have strengthened suspicions that poisoning was the cause.

Taking serious note of the incident, the Pune Municipal Corporation’s Health Department has deployed a special flying squad to inspect the affected areas. Additionally, blood samples from the deceased pigs have been sent to the High-Security Veterinary Institute in Bhopal for further analysis, according to Dr. Sarika Funde, Chief Veterinary Officer of the Municipal Corporation.

The revelation that poisoning may have caused the deaths has created widespread concern among local residents. Many fear potential contamination of water and food supplies in the area. Citizens are urging the Municipal Corporation and Health Department to take immediate preventive measures to ensure public safety.
