Pune Police And Municipal Corporation Prepare ‘Special Action Plan’ For Safety Of Women

Pune, 16th September 2021: The incidents of atrocities against women in the city in the last few days have been taken seriously at the municipal level. A joint meeting was organized by the Pune city police and Pune municipal corporation (PMC).

The meeting was attended by Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta, Joint Police Commissioner Ravindra Shisve, Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar, all party leaders of Pune Municipal Corporation, as well as municipal officials. In this meeting, it was decided that the PMC and the Pune Police would jointly prepare an action plan for the safety of women.

Mayor Mohol said, “The number of women in jobs and businesses is increasing. This has led to incidents of harassment as women have to travel night and day for work and business. CCTV cameras, as well as an electrical system, will be provided in the school grounds, parks, railway station area, Swargate bus stand, Shivajinagar bus stand area as per the instructions of the police station through Pune Municipal Corporation. In addition, special training will be conducted in private and government schools for self-defence training for women among others.”

“Special regulations will be prepared and implemented for passenger transport, Ola/Uber cabs and autorickshaws, school vans. The help of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) and Regional Transport Office (RTO) will be taken for the safety of women in public transport. Also, strict rules will be prepared for lodges and hotels and it will be implemented”, he added.

What will be in the action plan?

  • Collection of information about people living on footpaths, those coming to Pune from outside
  • Special regulations for Ola/Uber cabs and autorickshaws, school vans
  • Strict regulations for hotel-lodges
  • CCTV cameras and lights at stations, bus stations, parks, grounds
