Pune, 16th September 2021: In a major development, Pune Municipal Corporation’s Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College has finally been approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
The ruling BJP had insisted that the college get early approval as the municipal elections will be held this year.
The medical college will be started at PMC’s Dr Naidu Hospital near RTO. The laboratory will be at Sanas School in Mangalwar Peth. There will be a student hostel at Sanas ground.
A central government committee recently visited Pune and inspected the work of the medical college. This week, the PMC has started conducting interviews for various posts.
Municipal elections are going to be held in the near future, so the BJP is trying to start this medical college this year.
Mayor Muralidhar Mohol had requested Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis to meet Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya to expedite the work. According to him, the meeting took place in Delhi last month. Mandaviya was briefed on what the PMC has done so far and what improvements have been made as per the suggestions made by the central committee.
Meanwhile, the National Medical Commission of the Central Government reviewed the work of the medical college and prepared its report. The PMC had rectified the errors suggested by the PMC.
“The final approval has completed the journey of the medical college from concept to achievement. It is an important step towards enabling municipal health facilities. At the municipal level and especially till the final approval, major technical processes were on the way. Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis, former Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and current Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and the Maharashtra state government have been instrumental in this process.
