Pune Police Arrest Accused in Minor Girl’s Kidnapping and Rape Case

Pune, 27th April 2024: By the lure of marriage, a minor girl was kidnapped in Pune and raped. The accused in this case has been arrested by the Pune City Police. A case has been registered against three people, with two of them already apprehended.

The girl’s mother filed a complaint at Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Station. The girl was rescued from the accused. In connection with this, Bharti Vidyapeeth Police has registered a case against Vaibhav Mergo (age 32, resident of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar), Prashant Bansode (age 40, resident of Solapur), and Sumit Valmiki (age 25, resident of Solapur). Mergo and Bansode have been arrested by the Bharti Vidyapeeth Police, while their accomplice Valmiki is currently evading capture.

According to the police report, in September 2022, Mergo kidnapped the 14-year-old girl from Pune in collusion with Bansode and Valmiki. Vaibhav Mergo owns a chocolate distribution company, and Prashant Bansode is a transporter. Mergo lured the complainant’s 14-year-old daughter by promising marriage with the help of Bansode and Valmiki on 18th September 2022. She was taken to Bansode’s residence in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, where she was sexually assaulted.

Mergo recorded the assault on camera and threatened the girl. He also scared the victim that they would kidnap and harm her mother and brother. The accused were apprehended under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Dashrath Patil. The girl was rescued and reunited with her family. Police Sub-Inspector Sonali Mithare is conducting further investigations into this matter.
