Pune Police Arrest Owner Of School Where Dance Teacher Sexually Abused Students

Karve Nagar, 19th December 2024: A dance teacher from a reputed school was arrested for sexually abusing students. The court has granted four days of police custody to the involved dance teacher. Following widespread outrage regarding the incident, Pune Police have also arrested the school owner now.
The school president and director, identified as Anvit Phatak (age 40), was arrested by the Warje Malwadi Police Station. A case has been registered against him under Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act of 2015.
According to police, the dance teacher was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing students, including an 11-year-old boy. The abuse came to light during counselling sessions, revealing a two-year history of inappropriate behaviour. The teacher has been charged in two cases, with police custody granted until 22nd December for further investigation into potential additional victims.
The school has dismissed the teacher, and parents have expressed their anger, seeking answers from the administration. Special Public Prosecutor Nitin Konghe emphasized the seriousness of the charges, prompting the court to support a thorough investigation. Attention then turned to the school management, and people demanded punishment for their involvement as well. Following that, school owner Phatak was arrested by Pune Police earlier today.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3) Sambhaji Kadam stated, “Today, school owner Anvit Phatak was arrested at the Warje Malwadi Police Station under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act of 2015 for failing to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of students against any form of physical, mental, or sexual abuse.”
