Pune Police Bust IPL Cricket Betting Racket, International Links Suspected

Pune, 27th September 2021: Acting on a tip-off received by Pune Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta, Crime Branch teams swooped down on bookies taking bets on IPL cricket match on Sunday. Police have recovered Rs 93 lakh cash in the operation.

 

The top cop said that an FIR has been registered against Ganesh Bhivraj Bhutada (50) of the Trimurti Society in Rasta Peth. Police said that he was taking online bets on the cricket match. A total of Rs 92 lakh cash and mobile phones and cash counting machine, totally worth Rs 65,000 was seized from his possession. An FIR has been registered against him at Samarth police station for offences under the Indian Penal Code, Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act and Indian Telegraph Act.

 

Another case has been registered against Ashok Bhawarlal Jain (48) of Hyde Park in Market yard. Police have seized Rs 51,700 cash and seven phones from his possession. An FIR has been registered against him at Market yard police station.

 

Officials said that investigation is going on to find out their accomplices. Their call records show that the accused were in contact with people in Dubai.

 

The action was taken under the guidance of Commissioner of Police Amitabh Gupta, Jt CP Ravindra Shisve, DCPs Priyanka Narnawre, Bhagyashree Navtake and Shriniwas Ghadge.
