Pune Police Conduct Late-Night Comb-Out Operation in Budhwar Peth
Budhwar Peth, 11 February 2026: In a major overnight enforcement drive, Pune Police carried out a large-scale combing operation in Budhwar Peth between midnight and 3 a.m., targeting suspected illegal activities and tightening surveillance in one of the city’s most sensitive localities.
The operation formed part of an intensified campaign to strengthen law and order, with senior officers ordering coordinated action involving multiple local police station teams and Crime Branch units.
Police established checkpoints throughout the area and searched over 50 residential premises, including locations suspected of being used for illegal activities. Women police personnel were deployed to question women found at these sites, with a focus on identifying any instances of coercion or forced involvement in sex work.
Officials said the objective was not only enforcement but also ensuring the protection of vulnerable individuals who may be exploited.
Several men allegedly found in the locality seeking prostitution services were detained for questioning. Officers examined possible links to drug consumption and trafficking, along with other unlawful activities. Those detained were made to sit along the roadside while their identities and backgrounds were verified.
As part of the drive, police also checked for suspected cases of illegal stay by foreign nationals, particularly individuals believed to be from Bangladesh. Several persons were questioned regarding their identity documents and residential status.
Senior police officials indicated that similar surprise night operations will continue in designated areas across Pune. The aim, they said, is to curb criminal activity, ensure compliance with the law, and maintain public safety.
