Pune Police Constable Risks Own Life to Save Drowning Woman

Pune, November 17, 2019: A police constable of Pune city police who was on leave risked his own life to save a drowning woman in Jambhulwadi Lake on Thursday morning. The woman wanted to end her life due to some domestic issue.

Constable Saddam Shaikh of Warje Malwadi police station saw a crowd around 10 am near Jambhulwadi lake in Ambegaon. Soon he saw a woman was drowning while there were 20-30 youths on the bank just watching the horror. He handed over his wallet and mobile phone to a bystander and jumped into the lake.
“I reached the woman and caught her hand as she started drowning. I pulled her towards the bank. She was flailing. I managed to bring her near the bank and then lifted her to reach out safely”, Shaikh recalled.
Police Inspector Ashok Kadam said that the 25-year-old woman is unmarried and left home after a quarrel with family.
