Pune Police Crime Branch nabs duo who robbed people at knifepoint

Pune, August 10, 2020:The sleuths from Crime Branch Unit 4 of Pune City Police have arrested two notorious criminals on police record for allegedly robbed people. Recently they had looted a hospital ward boy in Kalyani Nagar.

The arrested persons have been identified as Venkatesh Datta Tagare (35) of Khadki, and Sunny Satish Gaikwad (27) of Mundhwa. There are 55 cases against Tagare. He was released from jail on parole in March. He took loans from friends to survive the lockdown and later worked as labour. However, to fulfil his alcohol needs, he again indulged in the robbery. There are drugs smuggling cases against Gaikwad registered in Mumbai.

 

According to police, on August 1, a ward boy was walking towards home in Vadgaosheri after his duty. On his way home, two strangers near Gunjan Talkies asked him if they could drop him. Agreeing to the help offered, the victim hooped on the bike. They stopped the bike at Kalyani Nagar and put a knife to his neck and robbed his phone and cash. The victim registered a complaint after eight days on August 9 at Yerwada Police Station due to fear and shock.

The probe began, and the victim described the accused in detail. Receiving a tip-off from the informer, Police sub-inspector Vijay Zanjad arrested the accused near Khadki railway station. The accused had robbed an Activa scooter from Dehu road and looted seven mobile phones in Akurdi, Bundgarden and railway station area.

 

Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ashok Morale, DCP Bachchan Singh, ACP Shivaji Pawar supervised the investigation team which included Police Inspector Anjum Bagwan, Police Sub-Inspector Vijay Zanjad, and police personnel Shankar Patil, Sunil Pawar, Ganesh Salunkhe, Sachin Dhawale, Ramesh Rathod, Abdul Sayyed, Sagar Ghorpade, Surendra Sable, Bhalchandra Borkar, Suhas Kadam, Nilesh Shivatre and Ashok Shelar.
