Pune, 13th March 2025: In a decisive action against illegally modified motorcycle silencers causing noise pollution, the Pune City Police’s Traffic Branch has launched a special campaign, seizing and crushing 1,768 bullet modified silencers under the “Bullet Silencer Special Campaign.”
On the directives of Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and under the guidance of Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma and Additional Commissioner of Police (East Region) Manoj Patil, a large-scale operation was carried out to curb the growing menace of modified silencers that produce excessive noise. As part of the action, the seized silencers were destroyed using a road roller.
In Pune, the growing trend of modifying silencers on Bullet motorcycles and other two-wheelers has led to frequent violations of traffic norms. Riders often install these modifications to amplify exhaust sounds, drawing attention by riding at high speeds through public roads and residential areas, even during nighttime. This has become a source of nuisance, particularly for senior citizens, women, and peace-loving residents.
Following numerous complaints from citizens, Police Commissioner Kumar instructed the traffic branch to take strict action against these violators. A special campaign was subsequently launched across all traffic divisions to crack down on illegally modified two-wheelers.
The police have also warned that garages and shops selling or installing such modified silencers will face legal action. Authorities are now focusing on dismantling the supply chain to prevent further violations.
The Pune City Police has urged residents to report any instances of illegal modifications and assured that the campaign will continue to maintain peace and curb noise pollution in the city.
