Pune, 9th August 2025: In a significant move towards technology-driven policing, the Pune City Police have rolled out Mobile Surveillance Vans (MSVs) and advanced drones, inaugurated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis during the inauguration and ground-breaking ceremony of various projects under the Pune City Police Commissionerate on Friday.

Chief Minister Fadnavis inspected the high-tech MSVs and aerial surveillance drones, which aim to strengthen monitoring of public spaces, large gatherings, and critical events, while bolstering law and order across the city.

Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said that five modern control vehicles—each linked directly to the police control room and equipped with drones—have been inducted into service. “These vehicles can function as mini commissionerates when required,” he said. Each of Pune’s five Zonal Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) has been assigned one MSV for use in their jurisdiction, staffed with trained drone operators, control room personnel, and technical experts.

Cutting-Edge Surveillance Capabilities
Pune Police’s Mobile Surveillance Vans are equipped with advanced technology designed for real-time monitoring and rapid response. They feature high-resolution CCTV cameras with 360-degree coverage, night vision, and powerful zoom functions, enabling effective surveillance even in low-light conditions. The vans are fitted with GPS tracking, robust communication systems, and live video streaming to the central control room, allowing coordinated action during emergencies, traffic management, and crowd control.

In addition, they are equipped with facial recognition software and secure data storage systems to support criminal investigations and enhance law enforcement operations. This integration of AI-based analytics with mobile command capabilities offers a powerful tool for proactive policing.

Eyes in the Sky
The state-of-the-art drones further extend the police’s surveillance reach, providing an aerial perspective during crowd management, search operations, and emergency response. The combination of drone feeds and MSV data enables officers to track unfolding situations in real time and deploy resources strategically.

Senior Police Inspector Mahesh Bolkotgi, in charge of Shivajinagar police station, said, “The surveillance vehicles will be used during crowd control as well as in locating and apprehending suspects during combing operations. Trials are currently underway in our area.”

Officials believe this tech-enabled approach will not only improve operational efficiency but also set a benchmark for urban policing in Maharashtra, making Pune one of the leading cities in adopting smart law enforcement solutions.
