Pune, 30th December 2024: As the city gears up to ring in the New Year, Pune Police has announced a comprehensive plan to ensure safe and smooth celebrations. With thousands expected to gather at popular spots such as Pune Camp, FC Road, and JM Road, stringent measures are being implemented to tackle challenges like drunk driving, reckless behavior, and crowd control.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar stated, “Around 3,000 police personnel, including 700 traffic police officers, will be on duty across the city to maintain law and order. Crowded areas such as MG Road and Jungli Maharaj Road will have heightened surveillance to handle the influx of revelers.”
In a proactive measure, the police have identified 23 drunk driving hotspots where special patrols and checkpoints will be set up to deter violations. Efforts will also focus on ensuring smooth traffic flow and addressing issues such as rash driving and underage driving.
Additionally, 40 private venues have sought permission from Pune Police to host New Year celebrations. These include pubs, restaurants, and event spaces. All establishments have been instructed to adhere to strict guidelines, with severe penalties, including license cancellation, for those found serving alcohol to minors or violating other safety regulations.
Commissioner Kumar further added, “We have taken every possible measure to create a safe environment for citizens. By following the rules and celebrating responsibly, everyone can enjoy the festivities without compromising safety.”
