Pune, January 24, 2021: The Pune police have granted permission to hold the long-awaited Elgar Parishad in Pune. The event will be organised on 30th January 2021 at Ganesh Kala Krida Rangmanch at Swargate.

Retired judge of Bombay Highcourt B.G. Kolse-Patil had applied for the permission of this event at Swargate Police station. The permission was granted recently, but only 200 people are allowed to present for the event due to covid-19 restrictions, said Balasahaeb Kopnar, senior police inspector, Swargate police station.

Earlier, the permission was denied by the police to hold the Parishad on 30th December 2020, by saying that covid-19 restrictions and law and order issues.

On 31st December 2017, the Parishad was organised at Shaniwarwada, and very next day on 1st January 2018, violence broke out at Bheema-Koregaon in Pune. The police have claimed that violence had a strong connection with the Parishad held at Shaniwarwada.
