Pune Police Imposes Nighttime Ban on Loud Firecrackers During Diwali
Pune, 8th October 2025: Ahead of Diwali, Pune Police has announced a ban on loud, sound-polluting firecrackers between 10 pm and 6 am. The decision follows directives from the Supreme Court of India and the Environment Protection Act, aiming to reduce noise pollution while ensuring public safety.
Authorities have warned that strict action will be taken against anyone violating these rules. The police have specifically prohibited bursting firecrackers on roads, bridges, ghats, and within 10 meters of such areas.
Temporary licenses for firecracker sellers will be issued from October 20 to October 24, continuing the practice followed in previous years.
The Supreme Court has also issued key guidelines regarding firecrackers. The sound of crackers must not exceed 124 decibels, and the production, sale, and use of crackers with more than 100 chain links are prohibited. Additionally, firecrackers must not be burst within 100 meters of sensitive areas, including schools, hospitals, and court premises.
Pune Police has emphasized that these measures aim to balance the festive spirit of Diwali with environmental concerns and public health. Citizens are urged to follow the rules to ensure a safe and peaceful celebration.
