Pune, 28th February 2025: Pune City Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar has ordered a crackdown on habitual offenders in Pune following a rape incident at Swargate Bus Depot. The directive comes after the arrest of Dattatraya Ramdas Gade, 35, for allegedly raping a young female traveler on the premises.

Gade, a resident of Gunat village in Shirur taluka, was apprehended late at night from his hometown. Police Commissioner Kumar provided official information about the arrest to journalists this morning at the police headquarters, detailing Gade’s criminal background.

The accused was identified within hours of the crime, and his name was established even as the complaint was being registered. Gade had previously been arrested in January 2024 for mobile phone theft in the Swargate area. In 2019, he faced charges of robbery filed by both Pune Rural and Ahilyanagar Police.

Commissioner Kumar has instructed all police station heads in the city to regularly examine suspects arrested in cases of atrocities against women. He specifically ordered that habitual offenders with rape and molestation cases be summoned to police stations for questioning.

This incident has prompted increased vigilance and stricter measures against known offenders in Pune, particularly those with a history of crimes against women.
