Pune Police Order Illegal Food Stalls and Paan Shops to Shut by 10 PM
Pune, 26th May 2026: Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has directed that illegal food stalls and paan shops operating across the city must shut by 10 pm as part of a drive to maintain law and order in Pune.
Police clarified that hotels, restaurants and bars will continue to operate as per the timings permitted under existing rules. According to the commissioner, the action aims to curb unlawful activities and nuisance taking place late at night under the guise of “nightlife”.
The decision was taken after a recent review of the city’s law and order situation. Police observed large crowds gathering late at night at roadside food stalls and paan shops in several parts of the city, leading to complaints from residents and concerns over criminal activities.
Areas such as Deccan Chowpatty, Nal Stop Chowk, Karvenagar, Koregaon Park, Viman Nagar, Hadapsar, Kondhwa, Baner and Katraj were found to have food stalls operating till late-night hours.
Police said preventive orders have been issued for the period from May 26 to June 8. However, officials clarified that no prohibitory orders under Section 144 or curfew-like restrictions have been imposed.
The orders also prohibit the storage of explosive or inflammable materials, sharing panic-inducing videos on social media, carrying weapons and holding protests without police permission during the period.
