Pune Police Push For Faster Metro Construction To Ease Traffic Congestion

Pune, 5th December 2024: The ongoing Pune Metro construction has led to severe traffic congestion across the city, leaving commuters frustrated and increasing pressure on the traffic police. In response to the escalating issue, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has directed the Pune Metro administration to expedite the completion of key projects within the next three months.
A high-level meeting between Pune Police and Metro officials was convened on Wednesday (4th December) to address the situation. Police Commissioner Kumar emphasized the urgent need to accelerate the metro construction work, particularly to alleviate the gridlock affecting major areas.
One of the critical trouble spots is the Shivajinagar-Hinjawadi Metro route near the Range Hills area on Ganeshkhind Road. Traffic in this area has been diverted since 29th August 2023 for metro pillar construction, resulting in persistent jams and causing immense inconvenience to residents and commuters.
Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil (Traffic Branch) and Deputy Commissioner of Police Amol Zende were among the key officials present at the meeting, along with senior metro representatives. The discussions centered on measures to streamline the construction process and minimize traffic disruptions.
With police intervention and renewed commitments from the metro administration, the citizens are hopeful that the ongoing work will gain momentum, ultimately reducing the city’s notorious traffic woes.
