Pune Police Recover 14 Stolen Motorcycles; One Arrested, Juvenile Detained

Pune, 12th September 2026: Vishrambaug police have recovered 14 allegedly stolen motorcycles worth around ₹10 lakh after arresting a 26-year-old man and detaining a juvenile in connection with vehicle thefts reported in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and other districts. Another suspect remains at large, police said.

The arrested accused was identified as Krishna Chandrakant Shelke, 26, a resident of Ahmedpur in Latur district. Police did not disclose the juvenile’s identity in accordance with the law.

“We have recovered 14 stolen motorcycles worth approximately ₹10 lakh and detected 12 vehicle-theft cases. The case links and ownership details of two other motorcycles are being verified, while efforts are underway to trace the absconding accused,” Senior Police Inspector Navnath Jagtap of Vishrambaug police station said.

The investigation began after a Honda Shine motorcycle bearing registration number MH-37-AB-3872 was stolen from Chimanbag Society near Tilak Hotel in Navi Peth on the night of June 23. The owner had parked and locked the motorcycle before it was allegedly taken away by an unidentified person.

A case was registered at Vishrambaug police station under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Assistant Police Inspector Umesh Karke, who heads the detection team, and his colleagues launched a parallel investigation into the theft.

Police subsequently received information that two suspects allegedly involved in similar offences were present at a location in Narayan Peth. A team went to the area and spotted two youths matching the description provided by the informant.

When police attempted to detain them, one suspect allegedly escaped through nearby lanes under the cover of darkness. The other was caught along with a motorcycle and was found to be a juvenile, police said.

During questioning in the presence of his relatives, the juvenile allegedly told police that he and his associate had stolen motorcycles from Pune and other places. He also allegedly disclosed that they had sold two motorcycles to Shelke.

Acting on the information, a police team traced Shelke to Latur district, took him into custody and subsequently arrested him in the case.
Police said their investigation indicated that the juvenile, the absconding suspect and Shelke were allegedly connected to the theft of 14 motorcycles of different makes.

The recoveries helped police detect seven cases registered within the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad police commissionerates—two at Vishrambaug police station and one each at Samarth, Hadapsar, Bharati Vidyapeeth, Vimantal and Kalewadi police stations. Five cases registered in other districts were also detected, taking the total to 12.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police (West Region) Rajesh Bansode, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Krushikesh Rawale and Assistant Commissioner of Police Anuja Deshmane.

The team included Senior Police Inspector Navnath Jagtap, Police Inspector (Crime) Vikas Bhingardive and Police Inspector (Crime) Ramesh Lahigude, Assistant Police Inspector Umesh Karke; Police Sub-Inspectors Satyawan Gend and Mehboob Mokashi; and police personnel Nitin Mundhe, Amol Bhosale, Mahesh Kadam, Shailesh Surve, Sachin Ahiwale, Shashikant Darekar, Kailas Dukare, Zakir Maniyar, Anis Shaikh, Shivdatt Gaikwad, Sagar More, Arjun Thorat, Bhaskar Gaikwad and Umesh Gavhane.

Further investigation into the two remaining motorcycles is underway, while police are searching for the absconding suspect.
