Pune Police Register Case Against 20 ABVP Protesters For Vandalism At Savitribai Phule Pune University

Pune, 24th April 2023: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest at Savitribai Phule Pune University demanding a thorough investigation into the shooting of a ‘rap’ song without permission in the main building of the university.

The ABVP also presented other demands including the prompt issuance of degree certificates to students of the academic year 2022-23, release of pending examination results, and opening of the sports complex for student use.

During the protest, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj auditorium in the main building of the university was vandalized by a group of protesters. Based on a complaint from university, Chatushrungi police station has registered FIR against 15 to 20 ABVP protesters in connection with the vandalism. Despite the assurance of the university administration that their demands will be addressed, the protest continued, and the police force was called to control them.

The ABVP condemned the vandalism and stated that the protest was carried out in a constitutional manner. The group demanded that strict action should be taken regarding the filming of the ‘rap’ song without permission in the main building of the university. They also demanded that the pending results of the examinations should be posted, and errors in the results should be corrected.

The university administration assured the ABVP that their demands will be met. In-charge Vice-Chancellor of the university Dr. Karbhari Kale, Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. Sanjeev Sonawane, Registrar Prafulla Pawar, and members of the Adhi Sabha and Management Council were present during the presentation of the demands.

The images and audio recordings of the vandalism in the main building of the university went viral on social media. However, ABVP representatives stated that their group did not engage in any acts of vandalism during the protest.

The protest continued throughout the day, and the university was in a state of turmoil due to the presence of protesters and police personnel. The ABVP has called for peaceful protests and stated that they will continue to push for their demands.
