Pune Police Register FIR Against 500 Maratha Reservation Protestors For Blocking Mumbai -Bangalore Highway

Narhe, 1st November 2023: An FIR has been registered against 400 to 500 Maratha reservation protestors for blocking Mumbai-Bengaluru highway near Navale bridge yesterday.

Those booked include prominent leaders including Ravi Padwal, Prashant Pawar, Nikhil Panse, Umesh Mahadik, and others.

The Sinhagad Road Police have taken action against these individuals under various sections of the Maharashtra Police Act, along with the Criminal Amendment Act 2017. The complaint was lodged by Police Constable Nitin Nivrutti Khutwad regarding the protests on the national highway.

Tuesday afternoon witnessed disturbances on National Highway 48, affecting the route from Mumbai to Satara, where demonstrations disrupted traffic near VRL Tours & Travels on the Bengaluru-bound side and Vishwas Hotel on the Mumbai-bound side. Protesters expressed their solidarity with the cause of the Maratha reservation and the hunger strike of Manoj Jarange Patil.

The agitators resorted to unlawful means, blocking roads and burning tires, causing inconvenience and raising concerns about public safety. Police have also received reports of intimidation and creating panic among shops in the vicinity.

Assistant Police Inspector Pravin Jadhav is conducting further investigation.
