Pune Police Seize Gutkha Worth Rs 90 Lakh, One Person Arrested For Smuggling

Hadapsar, 9th January 2022: The officials from Hadapsar police station under Pune city police have seized gutkha worth Rs 90 lakh.

 

The arrested persons have been identified as Samiullah Murtaza Hussain (51), a native of Uttar Pradesh, who resided in Mumbai. His accomplice Sarfraj Sheikh of Upper Depot Bibwewadi is absconding.

 

Police Sub Inspector Avinash Shinde had received information that gutkha would be transported from Nipani in Karnataka. Accordingly, the police set a trap near Chowk No. 15 on Solapur Road and arrested the truck driver. Police found Hira Pan Masala Gutkha in it, informed Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Namrata Patil.

Upon further interrogation, the driver confessed that he was taking gutkha to a godown at Fursungi. The police informed the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Police Inspector Vishwas Dagle and FDA officer Anil Sadashivrao Gwate conducted the panchnama.

 

The action was taken under the guidance of DCP Namrata Patil, ACP Bajrang Desai, Senior Police Inspector Arvind Gokule, Inspectors Digambar Shinde, Vishwas Dagle.

 

The team included API Ratnadeep Gaikwad, PSI Avinash Shinde, Saurabh Mane, and police personnel Shahid Sheikh, Prashant Tonpe, Sharad Dhande, Gavhane and Kharat.
