Pune Police Seize Rs 3.2 Crore in Cash, Detain Businessman in Joint Operation

Hadapsar, 9th May 2023: The Pune City Police have made a major seizure of a huge amount of cash in the city.

Acting on a tip-off, the Traffic Branch, Lonikalbhor Police Station, Hadapsar Police Station, and Crime Branch Unit 5 conducted a joint operation and seized a suspect’s car. The vehicle and its driver were brought to the Hadapsar police station, where a thorough search was conducted.

During the search, bags were found in the car, and upon inspection, a staggering amount of Rs 3.2 crore in cash was recovered. The cash was counted and seized in the presence of two witnesses and sealed.

The suspect, identified as Prashant Dhanpal Gandhi, a 47-year-old businessman from Lasurane in Indapur taluka of Pune district, has been detained and the vehicle has been seized.

The police have taken action against the suspect under Section 41(D) of CrPC, and the Income Tax Department has been informed to take further action.

According to Gandhi, the cash was meant to be paid from his residence to Maharashtra Bank Main Branch on Laxmi Road, Pune, towards a loan.
