Pune Police Suspends Two Constables For Obstructing Contractor’s Work On Prabhat Road
Pune, 17th June 2023: Two police constables from Deccan Police Station, Nikhil Rajendra Shedge and Aqib Sattar Shaikh, have been suspended by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Sandeep Singh Gill for obstructing a contractor working on Prabhat Road in the Deccan Gymkhana area.
DCP Gill stated in the suspension order that the two constables have tarnished the image of the police force and displayed irresponsible behavior. The decision to suspend them was made in light of their actions.
The incident occurred last month when the police personnel were patrolling the area. At around 1 am, while the contractor was carrying out road work on Prabhat Street, Constables Shedge and Shaikh went to a hotel on the same road. They took the mobile phone of one of the workers at the hotel and used it to make a call to the police control room.
Constables Shedge and Shaikh intercepted him and questioned whether he had permission to work at midnight, as well as the details of his work contract. They pointed out the presence of gravel on the road and claimed that it could cause accidents. The contractor, in response, assured them that the gravel would be removed and even showed them the tender documents. However, instead of resolving the issue, the constables took the contractor to the Deccan Gymkhana Police Station, effectively blocking his work.
Following the incident, the contractor lodged a complaint with senior police officers. The officers conducted an inquiry into the call made to the police control room and discovered that the call was made from a mobile phone belonging to a hotel worker. When questioned, the hotel worker denied making the call and revealed that Constables Shedge and Shaikh had used his phone to make the complaint. Subsequently, Shedge and Shaikh were interrogated, and based on the investigation findings, DCP Gill ordered their suspension from the police force.
