Pune, 28th March 2024: In a bid to maintain public order and safety, Pune city police have implemented a series of measures affecting nightlife and street vendors across the city. Notably, pubs and beer bars, which traditionally closed by half past midnight, now have fixed hours. Additionally, restaurants, hotels, and ice cream parlours are permitted to operate until midnight, extending their previous closing times.

However, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has issued orders to shut down roadside food stalls after 11.30 pm, citing security concerns. This directive aims to curb street-side gatherings and potential disturbances during late hours.

Furthermore, the operating hours of country liquor shops have been restricted from 8 am to 10 pm, with strict adherence mandated. Concerns have arisen over the clustering of individuals near liquor stores, particularly with the presence of drunkards and Chinese food carts in proximity. Commissioner Kumar has emphasized that appropriate action will be taken against such violators, aiming to maintain public order and safety.

Addressing the rising instances of street crime, Commissioner Kumar has declared a prioritization of preventive measures. Incidents of minor altercations escalating into physical confrontations have been on the rise, prompting law enforcement to focus on curbing street-level offences. Warning of severe repercussions, Commissioner Kumar emphasized that individuals involved in street crime and vandalism will face strict consequences.

Moreover, amidst the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, heightened security measures are being implemented. Authorities are taking preventive actions against known criminals, including those associated with organized crime, fugitives, and individuals possessing illegal weapons. Increased police presence and security checkpoints have been established throughout the city to ensure public safety during this period.

Police inspectors across various police stations, including Kondhwa, Bharti Vidyapeeth, and Chatushringi, have been directed to intensify patrolling efforts to deter burglary incidents and maintain law and order in their respective jurisdictions. Additionally, strict action will be taken against any instances of public harassment or molestation, underscoring the authorities’ commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents, particularly women, during this critical time.
