Pune Police To Detain Drunk Drivers, Massive Police Deployment in Koregaon Park, Viman Nagar And Other Locations For New Year’s Eve

Pune, 28th December 2023: In preparation for the upcoming New Year’s celebrations, the Pune Traffic Police are ramping up efforts to curb instances of drunk driving across the city. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vijay Kumar Magar has issued a stern warning, emphasizing stringent actions against individuals found driving under the influence of alcohol on December 30 and 31.

DCP Magar outlined the comprehensive plan, stating that the traffic police have initiated a special campaign involving the installation of numerous checkpoints equipped with over 200 breath analyzers. Any individuals suspected of driving under the influence will be immediately taken into police custody. Notably, the police force will be significantly bolstered in key areas such as Koregaon Park, Vimannagar, Hinjewadi, and Balewadi High Street.

Expressing grave concern over the dangers of drunk driving, Magar reiterated that it constitutes a criminal offense. To ensure public safety and prevent accidents arising from intoxicated driving, the police will maintain a heightened presence at various junctions in the city.

To maintain vigilance and address reckless behavior during the New Year’s Eve celebrations, the traffic police urge revelers to refrain from drinking and driving. With a focus on preventing potential mishaps, they plan to utilize an extensive array of breath analyzers across the city. Moreover, special measures have been put in place to facilitate smooth traffic flow, anticipating large crowds from the evening onwards.
