Pune Police To Launch Action Against Foreign Nationals Overstaying In City, Over 300 Were Not Found At Given Addresses
Pune 15th Sept 2023: The Pune City Police have launched a special campaign to find foreign nationals who are overstaying in the city despite their Visa period to stay in India is over. The decision to start a special campaign was taken after the city police found 325 foreign nationals missing from their given addresses. The police have started searching for these people at various places in the city and an appropriate action will be taken against them.
It may be noted that many foreign nationals come to Pune with an official visa to complete their education, health treatment or any other reason. They arrive in the country using a relevant visa but it has been noticed that many of them do not return to their nation despite their visa period being over. To avoid being traced by the police, these people often change their addresses submitted to the police and it becomes a difficult task for police to trace them again.
According to officials, the majority of these foreign nationals who are reported missing from their given addresses and were found overstaying in India are from countries such as Uzbekistan, Yemen, Kazakhstan, Iran, Uganda and Nigeria. Around over 90% of them were staying on education visas while others had come to India on Health, Tourist or Business Visas. The officials of the Pune City Police have visited the educational institutes where these foreign nationals had taken admissions.

Information regarding these foreign nationals was taken from immigration bureau and the details have been passed out to relevant officials of different cities including Mumbai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad where possibility of these foreign nationals staying is expected. According to police, overstaying in India is a crime as per the rule and these foreign nationals will be deported to their nations once found.
