Pune Police turns good samaritan for couple

Pune, June 2, 2020: A 23-year-old woman attempted suicide by consuming a Good Knight mosquito repellent liquid, after losing her job. The woman was admitted to Minerva Hospital, Shivane. A doctor from the hospital had rhen called up at the Uttam Nagar Police Station, Pune city police to report the incident.
On receiving the details about the woman, Senior Police Inspector Sunil Pandharkar after verifying it, quickly informed the hospital that he and his colleagues would bear the expenses of her treatment. The hospital had treated and discharged the woman on the same day, free of cost, stated Pandharkar. He also spoke to her husband about her health condition.
Tweeting about the incident, Pune police stated that, the couple was tensed for the past few weeks due to financial crisis hit by the COVID-19 situation. Both of them had lost their jobs.  “On checking with her husband, we were told that he worked at a medical store in Kothrud, but couldn’t go there because of the lockdown as he didn’t even have money to buy rations let alone petrol. The policemen lent the couple a few thousand rupees and contacted an NGO to provide them more than a month’s rations.
Pandharkar also spoke to the medical shop owner and got the boy his job back, the girl who was working in PCMC had also lost her job, and hence the attempt to kill herself. Pandharkar successfully counselled both, and says, “They are doing fine, and even came to the police station to thank us: ‘who says angels have wings, these days they wear khaki!”
