Narayan Peth, 14th August 2025: The credibility of Pune Police has once again come under the scanner. Just days after a Kharadi Police Station sub-inspector faced extortion allegations, another officer has been accused of verbally abusing and threatening to kill a medical store employee. The incident, captured on CCTV, has gone viral on social media, drawing sharp public criticism.

According to police records, the altercation occurred on August 13 at around 5 p.m. in Narayan Peth. Mahadev Chaure, an employee at Matoshree Medical, was sweeping inside the shop when Police Sub-Inspector Vijay Sarwar, accompanied by friends, stopped in front of the store. When Chaure asked them to move aside, a heated argument reportedly broke out.

The verbal dispute allegedly escalated into Sarwar and associate Hanumant Raikar assaulting Chaure, using abusive language, and issuing death threats. Based on Chaure’s complaint, Vishrambaug Police Station registered a non-cognisable offence against both accused.

In a counter-complaint, Sumit Raikar—linked to the accused—alleged that Chaure had abused and threatened him. A separate non-cognisable offence was subsequently filed against the medical store worker.

This latest case adds to a growing series of misconduct allegations against Pune Police, from extortion claims to abuse caught on camera. The repeated controversies have fuelled public concern over accountability and discipline within the force.
