Pune: Policeman among 8 arrested for welcoming murder convicts outside the jail

Yerwada, May 30, 2020: A shocking case has come to light in which 30 to 40 youths crowded outside Yerwada Central Jail to welcome two convicts, convicted of murder after they were granted parole. They broke the rules of lockdown and made loud noises of vehicles. Police chased and arrested eight people, including a policeman, and seized pistols, live cartridges and iron rods from them.

Two prisoners Zameer Yasin Mulani and Sameer Yasin Mulani convicted of murder were granted parole. After the prisoners came out of the jail, 30 to 40 youths gathered to greet them. They broke the rules of lockdown by making loud noises and shouting while passing through vehicles. Upon learning of this, the police chased and intercepted their vehicles.

The youths were accompanied by a police constable working with the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate. The other three were in the car with him. Police have seized an illegal pistol, five live cartridges and iron rods from the car. It is learned that the escaped prisoner is the brother of a police officer. Vishrantwadi police have arrested eight people, including a police officer. Three cars belonging to him have also been seized.

Police constable Somnath Khalsode has lodged a complaint against policeman Sharif Baban Mulani (36) of Indrayaninagar in Bhosari, and other persons including Azad Sheikh Lal Mulani (30) of Talwade, Aadesh Dilip Okande (21) of Nigdi and Mubarak Baban Mulani (38) of Chikhali, Sandeep Kisan Garud (40) of Talegaon Dabhade, Hussain Jafar Mulani (43), Siraj Raju Mulani (22), Vinod Narayan Mane (26), all three from Kolvan in Mulshi taluka.

According to police, Sameer Mulani and Zameer Mulani were to be released on parole on Friday around 7 pm. His brothers, relatives and friends had come to pick them up in a four-wheeler and two-wheeler. All of them were shouting in front of the Vishrantiwadi police station. Senior Inspector of Police Arun Awhad, Constables Dinkar Lokhande, Somnath Khalsode, Waman Sawant and Aniket Bhingare chased them near Phulenagar and interrogated them. DCP (Zone 4) Pankaj Deshmukh, ACP Laxman Borate visited the spot and supervised the investigation work.
