Pune, 25th November 2022: Anjuman Khairul Islam’s Poona College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Camp, Pune has been awarded the rating of Grade ‘A+’ by the prestigious National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in the third cycle of re-accreditation. The college scored a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.27 on 4 point scale. This grade is a hallmark of very high academic quality, including education, research, and extension.
A three-member NAAC peer team visited the Poona College campus, including Prof Dr Madhumita Das, Former Vice-Chancellor, Fakir Mohan University, Odisha, Prof Dr Vijay Dev Singh, Department of Urdu, University of Jammu & Prof Dr Pacha Malyadri, Principal, Government Degree College, Telangana, on September 21 and 22 and assessed the college on various parameters, including curriculum, teaching, learning and evaluation, research, innovation and extension, infrastructure and learning resources, student support and progression, governance, leadership and management, and institutional values and best practices.
On this occasion, Hani Ahmed Farid, General Secretary, Anjuman Khairul Islam expressed that “We believe in providing quality education through which individuals can seek better job opportunities, progress with sustainable livelihoods, and have a healthy lifestyle.”
Dr. M. Hanif Lakdawala, Chairman, College Development Committee, stated that best-delivered education spurs innovative minds.
Principal Professor Dr Aftab Anwar Shaikh said, “It is the outcome of liberal policies of the management and the hard work by our staff & students for years that resulted in securing this recognition.” Principal Dr Shaikh also added that there is an improvement in all the seven parameters which NAAC’s peer team had considered while carrying out the college assessment.
“We had worked extensively on documentation which paid off well. And there was very good coordination during the NAAC peer team’s visit,” said Dr Iqbal M Shaikh, Coordinator, Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Poona College.
Affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), the college aims at maintaining a high level of excellence in academics and focuses on the all-around development of students. In the previous cycle of NAAC accreditation, Poona College was awarded a ‘B’ grade.
An autonomous division of the University Grants Commission (UGC), NAAC regularly assesses and accredits colleges, universities, and other recognised institutions to determine the ‘Quality Status’ of higher education institutions across the country.
