Pune: Poona College Organizes Anti-Ragging Week To Safeguard Students

Camp, 16th August 2023: Poona College of Arts, Science, and Commerce inaugurated Anti-Ragging Week on the occasion of International Youth Day, August 12, 2023. This timely initiative, jointly organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Anti-Ragging Committee, underlines the institution’s firm commitment to safeguarding its student community.

Principal Prof. (Dr.) Aftab Anwar Shaikh extended a warm welcome to the attendees, shedding light on the theme of International Youth Day: “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World” Prof. Shaikh unveiled an array of captivating competitions and activities scheduled for the week, encouraging active participation from students.

The event’s highlight featured the Chief Guest, Additional Commissioner of Police, Arvind Chawariya, delivering an informative speech stressing the gravity of anti-ragging measures, including the legal aspects and the significance of the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act.

Esteemed guests, Anand Salunke and Bhagyashree Salunke, President and Secretary of the Multipurpose Foundation, Pune, graced the event as Guests of Honour. Their presence added significant motivation, emphasizing the importance of students contributing to societal well-being. Bharat Bhima Yede, Assistant Room Officer, Examination – Confidential Room, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), Pune, also shared valuable insights.

The program concluded with the National Anthem, marking the success of this endeavour. Credit goes to the dedicated efforts of the Anti-Ragging Committee, guided by Principal Professor Dr. Aftab Anwar Shaikh, Vice Principal (Arts) Prof. Moinuddin Khan, and Vice Principal (Science) & IQAC Coordinator Dr. Iqbal Shaikh. The committee, chaired by Dr. Shirin Shaikh, and including members such as Dr. Shakir Shaikh, Dr. Shamshad Ahmed, Dr. Shabana Shaikh, Dr. Aafreen A. Ahmed, Dr. Baba Shaikh, and Dr. Riyasat Peerzade, played a pivotal role in organizing the event.

Special acknowledgment is due to the NCC cadets, who not only presented the guests with the Sword of Honour but also contributed to event logistics. The enlightening program directly benefited number of students, highlighting the importance of fostering a secure and conducive environment for the youth through such initiatives.
