Pune, 5th March 2025: Dr. Ajay Taware, the suspended head of the forensic sciences department at Sassoon General Hospital, has challenged his arrest in the Porsche crash blood test tampering case, calling it “illegal” in an application submitted to a special court. He claimed that the police failed to provide written communication detailing the grounds of his arrest, which he argues is a violation of legal procedures.

Taware’s plea, filed by his lawyer Jitendra Sawant on March 1 before Additional Sessions Judge K.P. Kshirsagar, states that his arrest contravened Section 50 of the Criminal Procedure Code and Article 22(1) of the Constitution, both of which safeguard an individual’s right to be informed of the reasons for their detention. The court has scheduled a hearing on the matter for March 6.

The forensic expert is accused of conspiring with the father of the 17-year-old Porsche driver, a well-known city builder, to manipulate the teenager’s blood alcohol test results. His arrest was part of the broader investigation into the case.

In response to Taware’s claims, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ganesh Ingale, who is leading the investigation, stated, “We have followed all legal procedures before arresting him and the other accused. We will submit our written response opposing his plea in court.”

Taware, who has been in judicial custody at Yerawada Central Prison since his arrest on May 27, is seeking his release based on the alleged procedural lapses.

The case stems from an accident on May 19 in Kalyaninagar, where a Porsche Taycan, driven by the underage teenager, rammed into a motorcycle at around 2:30 a.m., killing two young software engineers Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both from Madhya Pradesh.
