The arrests were made as part of a crackdown under the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’, aimed at curbing illegal narcotics trade and substance abuse.

According to police, a team from the Local Crime Branch was on patrol in the Shirur area on April 17 when it received information that occupants of two cars parked near Shiv Sai Leela Mangal Karyalaya on the Nhavra Phata-Baburaonagar road were carrying MD drugs for sale.

After obtaining permission from the Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Shirur division, a joint team of the Local Crime Branch and Shirur police station conducted a raid at the location and three persons were detained.

The three accused were identified as Vishal Maruti More (20), resident of Bafnamala in Shirur; Pratik Santosh Langhe (25), resident of Karde in Shirur; and Mithun Vijaypal Singh (26), resident of Savatamali Nagar, Shirur.

A case has been registered at Shirur police station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act based on a complaint filed by police constable Tushar Ashok Pandare of the Local Crime Branch.

During questioning, police found that the accused allegedly used the Porter app to get the narcotics delivered to the consumers. Police are now probing persons who received such deliveries.

Officials said efforts are underway to trace the main supplier who allegedly used the delivery platform for drug distribution.
