Pune, 20th August 2026: A man allegedly posing as a representative of the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) for Maharashtra and Goa was booked for allegedly defrauding the Pune district administration of around Rs 20 lakh by using forged documents and availing himself of government facilities.

The accused has been identified as Dharmendra Brijlal Sonkar, a resident of Pimpri. A case has been registered against him for allegedly misrepresenting himself as an NCBC representative and using a fake letterhead in the commission’s name.

According to the complaint, Sonkar submitted the forged letterhead to the Pune district collector’s office and used it to gain unauthorised access to a government rest house in Lonavala. He also allegedly availed himself of escort services from the Pune Rural Police and other government facilities.

Police said Sonkar was not an NCBC representative but allegedly portrayed himself as holding the position and used forged documents to convince government officials of his credentials.

The complaint alleges that by misleading the district collector’s office and other government departments through forged documents, Sonkar caused a financial loss of around Rs 20 lakh to the government. Bund Garden police are investigating the case.
