Pune: Power Theft Exposed At Agro Foods Cold Storage In Chakan, Criminal Case Filed

Pune, 1st November 2021: Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has uncovered a power theft of Rs 1 lakh at SL Agro Foods cold storage in Kuruli near Chakan.

A remote was installed by MSEDCL as the electricity consumption was not recorded in the meter and the power theft was detected in just 19 hours. A case has been registered at Chakan police station under Pimpri Chinchwad police.

It was learned that under the Rajgurunagar division, MSEDCL had provided a high voltage power supply for SL Agro Foods cold storage.

Additional Executive Engineer, Pune Rural Testing Department, DN Bhosale while inspecting the power connection, had doubts about the layout of the power plant. Along with him, Executive Engineer of Rajgurunagar Division Manish Thackeray, Deputy Executive Engineer Sandeep Daramwar, Assistant Engineer Ram Prasad Narwade inspected the power plant.

The inspection revealed that two electronics kits had been installed by modifying the electrical system in the cold storage and based on that, a technical arrangement was made to ensure that power consumption would not be recorded remotely. A ‘panchnama’ was conducted after the power theft was detected and two electronics kits and other materials were seized.

It was observed that the electricity consumption in the meter was stopped remotely within 19 hours before the power theft was detected. It was concluded that electricity worth Rs 1 lakh 410 was stolen.

A case has been registered against Madan Keshav Gaikwad at Chakan police station under sections 135 and 138 of the Indian Electricity Act 2003.
