Pune: Pradhan goes on top after Round 8 at the AICFB National Chess Championships for visually challenged

Pune, 8th April 2022: Title favourite and six-time champion Kishan Gangolli dealt a blow to his chances after a draw in the eighth round of the Sava Herbal AICFB National Chess Championships for visually challenged being hosted by the All India Chess Federation for Blind and Rotary Club of Pune Heritage at PYC Hindu Gymkhana on Friday.

Playing on the top board, second seed Gangolli was held by Tamil Nadu’s 12th seed K Marimuthu to share 1 point equally.
Things got difficult for Gangolli, when Orissa’s fifth seed Soundarya Kumar Pradhan registered a convincing win over Maharashtra’s third seed Aryan Joshi on board two.
After the end of round 8, Pradhan is sitting on top of the ranking table with seven points, while Gangolli is second with 6.5 points. Marimuthu is joint-third with Maharashtra’s Swapnil Shah (6 points each).Seeded 11th, Shah defeated Tamil Nadu’s (35th seed) to get one full point and climb up the rankings on Friday.

Top seed Darpan Inani too registered a win. He defeated Orissa’s Prachurya Kumar Pradhan (10th seed) and is placed 10th in the rankings.
