Pune: Prison Doors Open For Students Doing Social Research

Pune, 5th March 2023: A decision has been taken by the Prisons Department to admit students doing social research in prisons. Social research is used to study human behaviour. Students from various universities and colleges visit the jail for law and social welfare courses. Research is done on various subjects through universities in Maharashtra as well as in the country.

Amitabh Gupta, Additional Director General of Police, Prisons Department, has decided to admit the students coming to the prison for research. Students from registered institutions, various government-recognized universities and colleges will be allowed to visit prisons for research purposes. However, except for some objectionable topics, research can be done on other topics. This permission will be given subject to certain conditions. Additional Director General of Police Gupta said that a maximum of 35 students of the college will be allowed to visit the jail for educational reasons.

Various activities are conducted for the prisoners in the jail. Students doing research in social work will be provided with an opportunity to visit the actual prison. So students will get real information. The prison visit will be a guide for the law course students. Prison inmates can benefit from legal assistance and the legal profession in the future. The problems and mental condition of the inmates are studied. Tata Institute of Social Sciences and Maharashtra Institute of Mental Health and Sassoon Sarvopachar Hospital will conduct research studies on the prisoners. Detailed research on emotional and mental health problems faced by prisoners in Maharashtra can be done in coordination with the Prisons Department. A physical visit will bring many positive aspects of the prison to society.

Many people want to see the prison. A group of a maximum of 35 students from the college will be allowed to visit the prison for educational purposes. For this, the group can visit the jail via application to the jail superintendent.
