Pune: Protest Breaks Out at Urban Company Office in Baner Over Service Charges
Pune, 31st May 2023: A significant demonstration took place today at the Urban Company office situated in Baner, as numerous professionals, including electricians, plumbers, and carpenters, expressed their dissatisfaction with the service charges imposed by the company.
According to the protesting professionals associated with Urban Company, the company deliberately maintains lower service charges compared to other providers. Furthermore, they allege that substantial amounts are deducted from their payments as platform charges, resulting in significant financial losses for the workers.
During the protest, one Urban Company representative shared, “The company’s policies frequently undergo changes just before the monsoon season. When we voiced our concerns to them, they issued an ultimatum to either comply or face the risk of being blacklisted or forced to leave.”
Highlighting their grievances, an electrician who participated in the demonstration stated, “The company charges a meager Rs 49 for tube light fittings, which is the lowest rate in the market. However, once we factor in expenses like petrol and platform charges, our earnings are reduced to a negligible amount. We demand an increase in the charges.”
The electrician further emphasized the adverse impact of frequent changes in service charges on professionals who have taken loans from banks, making it increasingly challenging for them to meet their financial obligations.
