Undri, 29th December 2022: On the ninth day of their protest over the excessive taxes levied by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the Undri Village Citizens Action Committee announced that they will cease their protest for two months after speaking with Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar.

When the protesters first met with former water development minister Vijay Shivatre, he promised to help them with their problems. On 25th December, Shivtare met with the protesters and pledged to address their concerns about tax uniformity, fixing issues of property owners, and comparing the ready reckoner rate of Undri to the partially merged Undri in 1997 rather than NIBM.

Additionally, Supriya Sule had a lengthy conversation with Vikram Kumar about the different tax-related problems in Undri and the adjacent villages. It was then decided that the civic organisation should investigate the issue to determine how to remedy it and then present the issue to the state government appropriately.

Shivtare met with the Commissioner and other department officials earlier in mid-December to discuss several issues regarding recently amalgamated villages, mostly focusing on water and tax. Shivtare’s plea for the commissioner to form a committee to address tax-related concerns was granted. The PMC officials have now established a committee to address tax-related concerns every Tuesday and Thursday from 11 am to 2 pm at PMC headquarters.
