Pune: Purnkuti NGO Empowers Vulnerable Women and Communities with “Self Defense Session”

Budhwar Peth, 10th July 2023: Purnkuti NGO, renowned for its dedication to uplifting underprivileged communities, recently organized an “Innovative Self Defense Session” at their Budhwar Peth center. The session aimed to equip female sex workers, transgender individuals, PLHIV, and single women from the area with essential self-defense skills.
Purnkuti NGO has been actively working to support women, children, and HIV affected individuals, as well as transgender communities in and around Budhwar Peth and Pune city. Under their ‘Dhara’ project, the organization conducts various training workshops, including basic tailoring, bakery product making, cooking and catering, Diwali product making, mehndi, make-up, masala making, and business management training. These courses have received a positive response from beneficiaries, encouraging them to learn new skills.
The “Self Defense Session” was inaugurated by Mr. Suhas Nadgowda Sir, Former Additional Superintendent of Police, who also expressed the significance of learning self-defense. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from attendees, with Mr. Vijeth and Nikhil from “Kalah India” serving as instructors for the session.
During the session, trainers demonstrated valuable techniques on how to protect oneself in times of crisis. A total of 21 beneficiaries took part, eager to enhance their personal safety and security.
