Reported By Varad Bhatkhande
Alandi, 18th December 2024: In Pune District’s Alandi, a stray rabid dog went on an attacking spree, managing to bite over 50 people, including children and senior citizens. After this incident, the dog was eventually caught. Locals in Alandi have raised concerns about the situation and are holding the Alandi Municipal Council accountable for failing to prevent the dog’s rampage earlier.
For the past few days, in the Bhagirathi Nala area of Alandi, the dog had been targeting people. It bit 2 children, 11 women, and 31 men, with the dog suspected to be rabid. The Alandi Nagar Parishad was informed, and the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) Veterinary Department used its Dog Van to capture the dog, which had become aggressive.
Alandi, a well-known pilgrimage and tourist destination northeast of Pune sees thousands of devotees visiting the Jagatguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj Mandir daily. Although the dog has been caught, residents have complained about the ongoing issue of stray rabid dogs in open areas, including the Indrayani Riverside Ghats and other places. The citizens of Alandi have urged the Alandi Nagar Parishad to take preventive measures, such as administering injections and vaccines to the dogs to prevent further attacks.
