Shivajinagar, 27th April 2026: Police have registered a case against a group of students from ILS Law College under the Maharashtra Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1999, following a complaint by a fellow student alleging harassment inside the hostel premises.

The complainant, a second-year student, alleged that he was subjected to ragging by five classmates between October and December 2024. The accused students allegedly made derogatory remarks, mocked him, and created a hostile environment, causing mental distress.

Based on the complaint, an FIR has been registered under relevant provisions of the anti-ragging law, which treats such acts as a criminal offence. Police officials have initiated an investigation and are recording statements of the accused students as well as college authorities.

The development has drawn attention as the issue had earlier been reviewed internally by the college’s anti-ragging committee. The committee had reportedly found no evidence of ragging at the time and submitted its findings to the authorities.

With police now stepping in, the case is under fresh scrutiny. Officials said further action will depend on the outcome of the investigation.
