Pune: Rahul Gandhi Granted Bail in Defamation Case Over Remarks on Savarkar
Pune, 10th January 2025: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, was granted anticipatory bail by a special court in Pune in connection with a defamation case filed against him for controversial remarks about Hindutva ideologue V D Savarkar.
The hearing took place before Special Judge Amol Shinde, who presides over cases involving MPs and MLAs. Rahul Gandhi appeared for the proceedings via video conferencing, adhering to the date fixed for his appearance.
The defamation case was filed by Savarkar’s grandnephew, Satyaki Savarkar, following Gandhi’s speech to NRIs in London, where he allegedly made controversial statements about the late freedom fighter.
Advocate Milind Pawar represented Rahul Gandhi and filed an anticipatory bail application in the case. The court accepted the application and granted bail.
The next hearing in the case has been scheduled for February 18, 2025.
