Chinchwad, 5th November 2024: Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) candidate Rahul Kalate has promised to resolve the ongoing water crisis in Chinchwad constituency by introducing a closed pipeline system from Mulshi Dam. Kalate assured residents that this new plan would make the area tanker-free within the next two years, addressing the long-standing water shortages that have plagued several localities.

Kalate highlighted that the water currently supplied to Chinchwad travels 30-40 kilometers across the city, leaving the constituency at the tail end of the distribution system. As a result, leakages and low water pressure have become common issues, forcing many residents to rely on costly tankers to meet their daily needs.

While addressing residents from various societies in Chinchwad, Kalate pointed out that areas like Wakad, Pimple Saudagar, Pimple Gurav, Sangvi, and Rahatni experience severe water scarcity during summer, with the problem starting as early as February and continuing until August. The lack of proper planning and an unreliable water supply has left many societies dependent on borewells, which also dry up during peak summer months.

“The city has grown rapidly, but the planning for essential services like water supply hasn’t kept pace. Citizens have been suffering from water shortages for over a decade, despite paying crores in taxes,” said Kalate.

He added that society residents are forced to spend lakhs on tanker water during summer, as the existing system is unable to meet their needs.

Kalate further accused the local administration of failing to address the issue, despite a court order and the formation of a high-level committee six months ago. The committee, chaired by the Pune Divisional Commissioner, was tasked with ensuring adequate water supply, but Kalate claims that many complaints have been ignored, leaving residents to continue their struggle for water.

“I will work to ensure that societies no longer suffer from permanent water scarcity. Even with sufficient water storage in the dams, the water does not reach the residents in the required quantity. Instead, they are forced to rely on expensive tanker services. My aim is to bring water from Mulshi Dam through a closed pipeline, ensuring a consistent and reliable water supply for all. In the next two years, Chinchwad constituency will be tanker-free,” Kalate pledged.
