Pune, 10th June 2026: Pune Division of Central Railway conducted a week-long safety awareness campaign across its railway network, reaching thousands of road users and residents to promote safe practices at railway level crossings.

The campaign was organized from June 2 to June 9 as part of the observance of International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD), an annual initiative aimed at reducing accidents and improving public awareness about railway crossing safety.

According to railway officials, awareness activities were carried out across multiple sections of the division, including Pune–Daund–Baramati, Pune–Miraj–Kolhapur, Pune–Lonavala, Daund–Ahilyanagar–Yeola and Ahilyanagar–Beed routes. Safety officers and supervisors interacted directly with road users and villagers living near railway crossings, educating them on the risks associated with unsafe crossing practices and the importance of following safety regulations.

During the final phase of the campaign, railway safety teams visited several level crossing gates, including Gate Nos. 586, 2 (Ghorpadi), 4, 7, 9, 10 and 10A, as well as a level crossing gate between Hadapsar and Loni stations. Officials conducted on-site awareness sessions, advising commuters about precautions to be observed when crossing railway tracks and the dangers of attempting to cross when gates are closed.

As part of the outreach programme, around 5,500 safety awareness pamphlets were distributed among road users. Railway officials also circulated nearly 6,000 safety messages through WhatsApp to spread awareness about safe behaviour at level crossings.

To engage local communities, eight street plays were staged at different locations across the division. The performances focused on railway safety, accident prevention and responsible conduct by road users near railway tracks and crossings.

In addition, safety messages were regularly broadcast through public address systems at railway stations across the Pune Division throughout the awareness week.

The campaign was coordinated by the division’s safety department under the supervision of Divisional Railway Manager Rajesh Kumar Verma and Additional Divisional Railway Manager P. U. Jadhav. Senior Divisional Safety Officer Rajendra Kumar Kathail and Assistant Divisional Safety Officer Dilip Tayade led the field activities along with railway staff from various departments.
